Having escaped from Shadborne, June and John take refuge in a derelict chapel deep in the forest. With only Eloise for company, they decide to wait overnight and hope for a miracle, but they soon start to worry that this particular chapel might be hiding some dark secrets.

With John trapped in his bear form and Eloise gravely injured, June starts to explore the chapel. A mysterious blood-stained mirror stands to one side of the burned altar, and strange whispers in the darkness hint at a mysterious presence. And when Eloise wakes up and hears the same whispers, a terrifying mistake calls forth one of the most powerful evil forces in all of reality.

Meanwhile, the deadly Sister Dolorosa is still pursuing June, tracking her through the night and slowly homing in on her position. After a lifetime of pain, Sister Dolorosa has lost all hope of release. When she reaches the chapel, however, she discovers that there might yet be a way for her to make amends for her dark past.

The Eighth Seal is the eighth book in the Chronicles of Sister June series. Readers are advised to start with the first book.
